Many workshops are organized during the year at the Israeli Center for Vocal Music to further the cause of singing in Israel. The workshops are directed by leading professionals in the field and are designed specifically for choirs, singers, conductors, music teachers and education professionals.
Collaborative Choir Meetings
Every year joint events are arranged at Beit Yitzhak with other youth choirs from around Israel. Conductors and choral singers get together for concentrated days of singing and enrichment with experts from different fields: composers and arrangers (such as Haim Fremont, Eyal Batt, Moshe Zorman); prominent voice teachers (Prof. Mira Zakai, Efrat Ben-Nun, Meirav Barnea); experts in specialist areas of music; dance and movement teachers; acting coaches; and so on. The meetings conclude with a joint gala performance.
Master classes for young singers
A wonderful opportunity for young singers at the start of their journey to meet with and learn from leading vocal coaches. To date our young singers have benefited from master classes with such illustrious teachers as Prof. Mira Zakai, Efrat Ben-Nun, Jeffrey Francis, Philip Thorby and others.
The master classes offer singers a chance to study and absorb singing from new angles, learn different approaches and techniques, and raise awareness of movement and body awareness. For several concentrated hours participants give personal appearances before an audience, while also observing and learning from their peers’ experiences.
Workshops for music teachers and conductors
The workshops cover choral singing in general and children’s and youth choirs in particular. They give guidance in how to set up a choir and how to develop and promote young choirs; in selecting a suitable repertoire and recommended ways of working with children; in vocal work; in how to integrate choirs into the community; there are also demonstrations with children’s choirs. Workshop participants have an opportunity to conduct new repertoires and a helpful and fruitful dialog invariably ensues.
Festive music days
Since the cornerstone of the Israeli Vocal Music Center was laid in 2002, three festivals have been held in this relaxed, pastoral and intimate setting on Moshav Beit Yitzhak. Activities included an open vocal happening that continued till the evening, with a variety of performances, including guest ensembles and an evening event titled Singing to the Sunset.
Visitors to the festival were invited to participate and play an active role in singing activities. Participating ensembles included jazz groups, classical music ensembles, adult, children’s and youth choirs, popular singing groups and ethnic music ensembles.
During the Singing to the Sunset event continuous performances were held in an open and relaxed ambience in the park, complete with beer and a pervading happy and celebratory mood.
